The Maharashtra State Election Commission has notified the schedule for Gram Panchayath elections in the State.
The Polling for 14,234 Gram Panchayats in 34 districts of the State except for Mumbai city and Mumbai suburbs will be held on 15th January 2021 (Friday).
Further, polling will be held in Chamorshi, Mulchera, Aheri, Etapalli, Bhamragad, and Sironcha talukas of Gadchiroli districts on 20th January 2021 (Wednesday).
Now the Maharashtra State Election Commission, vide notification dated 5th January 2021, has directed employers to declare Paid Holiday on the Polling Day i.e 15th January and 20th January 2021 to allow Employees to cast their vote for the Gram Panchayat elections in the State of Maharashtra. The notification further states as follows,
(1) Workers/officers/employees who are eligible voters in the electoral polling constituency should be given a holiday to claim their voting rights on Polling Day, even if they are working outside the Constituency in which election is being held.
(2) This holiday will be applicable to all shops, establishments, residential hotels, restaurants, trade, industrial enterprises, or other establishments in the electoral polling constituency concerned.
(3) There is no need to close shops/companies/commercial establishments in urban areas or non-election areas. Employers in Maharashtra advised to take note of the above and ensure that these directions are fully complied with.
If there is a compliant about voters not getting the right holiday or concession for voting, appropriate action will be taken against them.
